The Center for Ethics at Emory University was awarded a four-year grant from the Ray C. Anderson Foundation to examine the cultural, religious, and ethical underpinnings of American environmentalism and corporate sustainability. CREATE is an integrative and multidisciplinary program that looks to:
- Draw on the rich resources of Atlanta-region scholars, supplemented with national and international scholars, to produce high-level scholarship on the religious, ethical, and cultural narratives and justifications for the environmental and sustainability movements in the United States and abroad, with a particular focus on their impact on business and industry.
- Produce scholarship through articles, an edited volume, pieces in the media and popular press, conferences, and academic and public speaking.
- Develop novel workshop curricula for clergy, teachers, and others to use in religious institutions, classes, and other appropriate venues (such as civic organizations), and to train those professionals in the most effective use of those curricula.
Why is CREATE important?
